There is a particular quality to this time of year. A sense of standing in an in-between: not quite closing, not yet beginning. A threshold with no clear edges.
A good place to remember something we tend to forget when life gets heavy: everything is a game.
Not a frivolous game —not escapism— but a shift in perspective. Our identities, roles and careers are temporary positions on a moving board. When we loosen our grip, agency returns.
This year stretched me in unexpected ways. Expansion, then contraction. Clarity, then fog. Momentum, then stillness.
At times it felt like being seventeen again —caught between who I was and who I am becoming. Uncomfortable. Promising. Heavy and light at the same time.
When we forget the game, everything feels final. Pauses look like failure. Complexity turns into a burden.
When we remember it, something shifts. Curiosity breathes again. And maturity can coexist with fresh energy.
The end of the year doesn’t ask for closure. It asks for lightness. For play.

You lead better when you hold life lightly. Not superficially —lightly. With enough perspective to recognise beauty, even in what is unfinished.

Where are you taking the game too seriously? And where could you play —just a little— more?
No forcing. Just room.

The unforgettable dance by Bugs Bunny — a reminder that timing, intelligence and lightness can coexist, and that sometimes the most elegant move is simply to enjoy the game.
